Hello,

Our HA is new to Resident Services and have never had a Resident Council. I am trying to build beneficial programs to help our residents reach self sufficiency. Does anyone have a Resident Council? How can I help them build from the interested party I have already vested? What are benefits? Thanks! 334-664-9991 ext 207

Hi Haley,

I don’t have any first hand experience about Resident Councils, but I’ve heard they can be quite beneficially to both the residents and the HA. The benefits have been spoken about quite a bit at various conferences. HUD has some good resources on this topic here:

We’re going to be spreading the word about this SH Resource Exchange at this week’s CSH Summit, so more people may be seeing this question and can hopefully provide their experiences too.

Foothold Technology created the Supportive Housing Resource Center for organizations and providers working to address homelessness around the country. We offer this resource center as an online gathering place where providers can share resources, tips, and stories as a learning tool for partners and providers who are working tirelessly to support the complex needs of those facing or experiencing homelessness.
